My Story

Braidery was born out of frustration, lived experience, and the refusal to be invisible. As a Black woman living in Norway, I've spent years navigating a beauty industry that rarely saw me, my hair, or my needs. I've walked into salons and been told "we don't do that kind of hair." I've stood in stores scanning the shelves for something—anything that would work. And one day, I picked up a product from Normal, used it exactly as instructed… and my hair locked into dreadlocks.

I had to beg a salon to help me untangle it in Kristiansand. They didn't know what to do either. By luck one in Tangval wanted to try, and after 3 hours I finally got my normal hair again. Even they didn't have proper products for my hair type.

It was humiliating. And worse, it was preventable.

I realized then that this wasn't just about me—it was about systems built without us in mind. Systems that make our beauty feel like a problem. That ignore our needs. That erase our presence.

So I built Braidery. A platform made to recognize us. To serve us. To connect people with textured hair to the products, routines, and professionals that actually understand them. But also to spotlight the stylists and braiders who've been excluded from digital spaces for far too long.

This isn't just about hair.
It's about dignity.
It's about access.
It's about showing up for communities that have never been centered until now.
